An SD card provides extra storage in your cell phone. Most SD cards can be formatted through your cell phone but there are some which cannot be formatted. That’s when we use this method to format the card. If your SD card doesn’t work with your cell phone, you’ll need to format the card using the FAT file system. This is done by connecting your card to your computer.
1. Insert the SD card into the SD card slot of your SD card reader and plug in to the computer.
2. Open “My Computer” by clicking “Start > My Computer.”
3. Right-click your SD card, which is located under “Devices with removable storage.” Select “Format” from the list of options.
4. Click the “File System” drop-down menu and select “FAT.”
5. Click the “Start” button at the bottom of the formatting screen. This formats your SD card to a file system that is compatible with your cell phone.
